The Eco-Kid Story
30 Sep 2002
Like most kids, I worried about the environment and what pollution might do as I grew up. Really, I wondered why there were environmental problems at all. After all, if adults are smart enough to build rocket ships to the moon, why can’t they make sure they protect the environment?

In 2000 I was asked to speak at the Canadian Waste Management Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I decided to make a video interviewing the leaders of the Federal Government, the premier of Nova Scotia, the Minister of the Dept. of the Environment and many kids from Nova Scotia. Even the Prime Minister of Canada helped. I presented it at the opening of the Conference. Boy, were people surprised!
Now, when making this video, one of the things I found out is that adults, particularly leaders, are very busy. But, if you keep trying, you can get their attention. One of the most interesting things I found out is that you can’t always rely on adults to do things for you. Adults will listen to us kids, though. After all, we kids need the environment a lot longer than the adults, and they know it! Therefore, we kids can also help to make sure that the adults leave the environment clean for us. It’s our world to keep clean. Let’s do our part and have fun doing it!
