The Yew Tree Gallery’s current exhibition, Touching the Edge, is dedicated to Darrell Posey. At the op-ening Herbie Giradet, ecologist and film-maker, talked about Darrell’s work and cellist, Emily Burridge from the Indigenous People’s Cultural Support Trust played her music based on the sounds of the rainforest. Darrell Posey was a remarkable re-searcher, activist and friend to many, who was deeply committed to ameliorating the plight of indigenous tribes in the Brazilian rainforest and received the Chico Mendes Award for extraordinary courage in the defence of nature’. A group of his friends and colleagues are working to establish a Fellowship in his name in order to build on Darrell’s unique vision. The Fellowship will reflect his work in the field of ethnoecology as well as his activism on behalf of indigenous peoples in Brazil and throughout the world. Awards will begin in 2003.

The exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, porcelain photographs and papier mache by various artists includ-ing Edwina Bridgeman, Fiona Millais and Robin Welch. Proceeds will go to the Fellowship. The exhibition runs from 18th May to June 30th.
