The Schumacher Society, originally inspired by Dr E.F. Schumacher, author of Small is Beautiful, is celebrating 25 years of promoting human scale solutions.

The Society’s popular lectures have expanded this year to include an East Anglian series on September 27th, 2003.
The Bristol lectures are taking place on 25th October with speakers, Michael Meacher MP, Ann Pettifor of New Economics Foundation and cosmologist and author, Peter Russell. During the day the annual Schumacher Awards will be presented. They are intended to honour people and grassroots organisations in the UK whose work is making a significant contribution to human scale development in the Schumacher tradition.

Amongst the nominees this year are Nigel Hughes and Richard Edmunds of the Green Light Trust, who have worked with people in Papua New Guinea to help them to safeguard the rainforest. In partnership with local authorities, business, the Forestry Commission and the Woodland Trust Green Light have also set up People Planting, creating new areas of woodland across the UK. You can read their story in full in the autumn edition of Living Lightly magazine.
