We are offering readers the opportunity to both save with a bank whose values we share, and to directly support Positive News.
When you open a Charity Saver account you can choose to donate a proportion of your interest to Global News Education Trust, a registered charity that publishes the Youth and Education pages in Positive News and also the Global NET Youth Newspaper. Triodos Bank has also teamed up with some of the UK’s most influential charities to launch this innovative savings account directly connecting people in the UK with the causes they care about.
According to Matthijs Bierman, Deputy Managing Director at Triodos Bank, the new Charity Saver is an important development for charities and savers alike. “The Charity Saver rewards savers with healthy interest and a unique social return. And, if you care about a particular cause, you can directly contribute to its success. Not only will the charity benefit, but so will you. You pick the proportion of interest you want to pay and we’ll make sure it reaches the charity you want to support.“
It will meet the needs of local as well as global charities. David Wilson, Director of ROC (Robert Owen Communities), a local charity supporting individuals with learning disabilities in Devon, explains: “We have worked with Triodos Bank since they first came to the UK. Triodos has continued to meet the challenges facing charities such as ours with imaginative solutions. Because they share our values we have been able to agree lasting, effective financial arrangements. The Charity Saver is another example of the innovative thinking of Triodos Bank.”
The Charity Saver is the first element in Triodos Bank’s Take Control’ campaign. Backed by a specially commissioned NOP poll, the campaign challenges people in the UK to take control of their finances and use them to make a positive difference to society and the environment. Bierman explains, “The Charity Saver is just one example of how UK consumers can take control of their finances to affect genuine, positive change. Whether it’s a savings account, buying shares in an ethical company or a decision to buy organic, people have the power to make a positive difference. Opening a Charity Saver account with Triodos Bank is just one of many.“
