The North West Organic Co-operative, in Derry, Northern Ireland, recently won a £2,000 award. The ceremony, which was held in London, was organised by internet service provider AOL UK along with nationalcharity Citizens Online.

Behind the website is a group of localfarmers who, back in 1999, set up a co-operative to produce and supplyorganic food. They will be using the Innovation in the Community Awardto build a new online shop where customers can buy organic produce from20 local farms. All their organic produce originates from organicallycertified producers and it is delivered fresh to people’s doors.

Usingthe online shop will make it easier for people to purchaselocally-grown organic food, thereby assisting the development ofco-operative organic farmers and increase their income and quality oflife. It will also act as a best practice model for sustainable organicfarming while promoting co-operative farming as a whole.
