There is an enormous surprise in the CD charts at the moment: an album of multiplication tables! Brothers, Peter and Christopher Webb, both teachers, came up with the idea of setting times tables to rock music and rap rhythms to make them easy and fun to learn.
The CDs have become so popular that Peter and Christopher have now left teaching to focus on their new business. Tables Disco is already used in over 10,000 UK schools and it has sold more than 100,000 copies. ‘People think that in this age of computers, kids don’t need to know their tables, but what a disadvantage you’d be at,’ explained Peter. ‘You’d be cheated in the simplest of transactions if you didn’t know the price of 6 oranges at 7p each.‘
All the tables up to 12 are included and each table is set to a different music style, each one being fully tested before one can move onto the next.
