If you are planning on going to UK green festivals this summer, watch out for the Groovy Movie Picture House, the world’s first mobile solar cinema. Audiences at Groovy Movie can watch all kinds of independent films, from the famous documentary about the McLibel trial to the work of amateur film makers.
The cinema is housed inside a custombuilt circular marquee, with black-out curtains and a coconut matting floor where there is room for 150 people to sit. It is powered by eight large solar panels which, over the course of one day, collect enough sun-energy to power eight night time hours. So, Groovy Movie viewers can watch films without any damage to the environment.
Speaking about the importance of running the cinema on solar power, Groovy Movie pioneer, Jerry Morgan, said: ‘It’s brilliant to be promoting renewables and make people see that you really can run a cinema like this.’
