The UK’s first commercial wind farmis to be repowered. The existing turbines will be replaced by new ones generating three times as much power, which will provide green electricity for 9,000 homes.

Green Energy, who operate Delabole, in North Cornwall, estimate it will save over 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. On August 18th the company is hosting the Delabole Wind Fairñ a kind of village-fete-meets– healthy-debate’. The event is free and will attract some 3,000 people.

‘It is important for people to see that renewable energy makes an essential contribution to the UK’s energy supply, and that structures like wind turbines are becoming part of our industrial heritage,’ said Juliet Davenport, Good Energy’s Chief Executive.

The Edwards family, pioneering owners of Delabole Wind Farm, have planted thousands of trees on their land as part of their commitment to environmental protection. The ash trees are harvested by Tim Hutton, the region’s only yurt maker, as frames for his yurts, which will also be providing some great indoor spaces during the Fair.
