While we've taken every precaution to ensure that the content of this article remains intact, it may contain errors.Just as necessity is the mother of invention, so challenging times evoke creative and elegant responses. So it is that worldwide just now, there are myriad exciting community-driven responses to the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. Representatives of some of the most creative and innovative of these will gather for next Easter’s conference at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland.
Following Einstein’s dictum that problems cannot be solved using the same mindset that created them in the first place, the conference sets out to awaken and stimulate emotional and spiritual as well as intellectual faculties.
Eminent peak oil analyst, Richard Heinberg, sets the context and provides a global overview of how communities are responding to the challenges. Meanwhile, Joanna Macy and Dorothy Maclean will help us deepen our connection with the divine wisdom we have inside ourselves and within the natural world that surrounds us.
Richard Lochhead, a leading thinker on renewable energy in the Scottish context and a member of the current Scottish Government, considers the role of government in facilitating community empower-ment. Rob Hopkins, founder of the Transition Towns Movement, Jonathan Dawson, President of the Global Ecovillage Network, and Megan Quinn from Community Solutions ¬≠ co-author of the film Power of Community ¬≠ How Cuba Survived Peak Oil, will be reporting from the frontline of community initiatives worldwide. Meanwhile, Richard Olivier leads a mytho-drama workshop, using themes from Shakespeare’s As You Like It, on assuming Green Leadership.
In short and in the best Findhorn traditions, the ‘Positive Energy’ conference is designed to stimulate the mind, open the heart, engage the creativity and empower the spirit, as we move into the extra-ordinary transformative times that lie before us.
