London’s first mainstream zero carbon housing is to be built on a three-acre site at Gallions Park, in the Thames Gateway. Working with builders, Crest Nicholson, ethical developers, BioRegional Quintain, have designed the development so that residents can live a sustainable lifestyle, in an holistic, attractive and new One Planet’ community.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
Simon Reddy of Greenpeace UK said: ‘Gallions Park is really showing the way forward. Not only will such progressive housing produce less global warming gases, but it will also mean that cheaper energy bills drop on residents’ doormats. And by producing power locally, it will avoid the enormous inefficiencies of antiquated and dangerous technology such as nuclear power.’
Nick Shattock, from Quintain Estates, said: ‘Gallions Park will demonstrate that zero carbon developments can truly work.We want to bring zero carbon intomainstream society. This development can be replicated right across London and beyond.’
The vision of One Planet Living’ is a world in which people everywhere can lead happy, healthy lives within their fair share of the Earth’s resources.
