Jay Griffiths, author of Wild; an elemental journey, is to give alecture at the Royal Geographical Society on 19th February. Jay will bespeaking out about her recently published book which has receivedexcellent reviews on both sides of the Atlantic.

Wild tells ofJay’s seven years odyssey, travelling the world, living amongstdifferent indigenous peoples. The book poignantly and passionatelyexplores the words and meanings which shape ideas of wildness and hownature defines cultures and identities. She argues that naturalwilderness is intrinsic to the health of the human mind and that ourspirit is essentially wild. Jay’s fascinating journey led her to seekout the will of the wild and how that quality was expressed inelemental vitality. The lecture will emphasise the threat we all facefrom the dominant western culture and how we are increasingly losingtouch with the natural world.

This event supports the WorldMonuments Fund Britain and will draw attention to Australia’sindigenous rock art sites, now in danger due to industrial development.
