An empowered community is a thriving eco-system where producers can provide for their family, cultural traditions are preserved, the environment is cared for and people have access to good jobs, health care and education.’

Ecommerce powerhouse eBay along with World of Good, an organisation that works to alleviate poverty, have joined forces to create a marketplace that is planning on making that dream a reality.

The aim is to create a site for socially-conscious shopping, where consumers can blend their personal values with their purchasing power to foster positive change around the world. This is done by bringing together Trust Providers: mission-driven trade associations and third-party certifying organisations like Transfair, the Fair Trade Federation and Co-op America to name just a few. For the first time, these Trust Providers are coming together to act as the gatekeepers, ensuring that every product on the site is people and planet friendly.

From hand-crafted jewellery, apparel and furnishings to coffee and chocolate, the new marketplace will offer products from hundreds of sellers, each creating positive change for the producers, their communities and the environment, to thousands of diverse people.

Bringing it all together in one place,” say World of Good, “adds a level of convenience to socially conscious shopping that rivals other conventional options, while maintaining a commitment to economic vitality and stability for people around the world.”
