Aged 16–25, fed up and reckon there’s nothing to do in Cornwall? Hollaboxx is here!

As it’s sometimes hard to decide what to get up to on a soggy autumnal evening or a crisp, clear winter’s day, Cornwall’s Chew TV has teamed up with Cornwall County Council and Youth Cornwall to provide an online directory in the form of a Chew TV channel called Hollaboxx. The new channel has been created to help young people realise just how much great stuff there is going on right here on their doorstep.

To get the ball rolling, Chew TV is calling for videos of what you get up to in your area so that other folks will be inspired to take part and also get their own stuff up on the channel.

Chew TV let a team of young people from Falmouth and Mullion take the lead across the project to make sure that the channel, the marketing, branding, promotion and content are bang on target and exactly what young people want to see. In return, the young team will be taking all the credit for the awesome new project, which will shortly be taking Cornwall by storm.

Harley McCabe, aged 15 from Falmouth School and one of the team involved with the creation of Hollaboxx says; ‘Living down here in Cornwall, I believe that we really have something to shout about and that’s how the name for the new channel came about, holla’ and box’, which basically means shout on TV. Working with Cornwall County Council, Youth Cornwall and Chew TV was great, the Youth Workers were sweet! We started the whole project from scratch and over a few weeks and a number of meetings, Chew TV encouraged us to throw ideas around and develop them, which led to design and mood boards and then actual designs done by a professional designer. Now my only hope is that all of our hard work pays off and Hollaboxx does what it is designed to do. That is show everyone all the cool things that are going on in Cornwall and inspire some people to give some new activities a go. It’s all out there so we’ve just got to go out and do it!’

One of the grown-ups’ involved with the creation of hollaboxx and the launch event at Mount Hawke is Pete Hughes of Youth Cornwall. He says; ‘Hollaboxx is great! It’s a collaborative council project that has linked up with the right people and resources to create something that is appealing and easy to use for young people. They won’t have to go out of their way to get involved as most young people have access to the Internet and can check out the channel at www.chewtv.com/hollaboxx. For those that don’t we are hoping the channel will be on the schools’ network very soon.’

Max Hepworth-Povey of Chew TV adds; ‘Hollaboxx is a really exciting project for Chew TV and has worked out perfectly. All of the young people involved worked tremendously well with top designers, our technical team at Chew TV and the administrative experts at Cornwall County Council. It really is proof that combining the creativity of young people and the experience of professionals is a perfect combination for organisations that are keen to target a young audience. The new channel will hopefully act as an inspiration for young people that are stuck for things to do and get them involved in some great stuff around Cornwall.’
