The Transition Network has received an award of £32,000 from Artists Project Earth, APE. The money was generated by the sale of a series of three Rhythms Del Mundo albums.

APE recruits internationally known musicians and artists to raise awareness of climate change and create funds for campaigns and disaster relief. It does this through albums, concerts, exhibitions and other art related projects.
Receiving the prize, Sophy Banks, co-founder of Transition Training, said: ‘We don’t have to wait for politicians to tell us what to do. If, as communities, we can transform our own systems of living, so that they are vibrant, upbeat and meet challenges head-on with compassion and goodwill, then we can seed a wave of cultural diversity and social justice, that will ripple across the world.

‘At the moment, society does not have a positive, socially-based vision of the future. To get people engaged, they need vision and hope. The Transition Network offers that vision but we all have to get connected to make the change happen.

‘This,’ Sophy continued, ‘is a historic window of opportunity to be the change we want to see in the world’.’

The Transition Network will be using the award money to fund a new position. The role will focus on making the Transition model more accessible to a much wider range of cultural and social groups. In particular, the aim will be to reach those that are often overlooked in social change movements where green issues are central. By working in this way, the Transition Network hopes to highlight the inextricable links between three crucial areas ñ environment, diversity and social justice.
