International Event for Low Carbon Societies at Centre for Alternative
Technology
The Low Carbon Societies network — an European wide project will be hosting
it’s annual conference at the Centre for Alternative Technology. The network
aims to stimulate lively exchange on energy scenarios that propose CO2
emission reductions by 2050, a limit of 2∞C limit of global temperature rise
as well as a fair share of reductions in the EU countries. As well as
bringing together different groups working on low carbon scenarios the
project aims to analyse the social acceptance of a switch to a low carbon
society and potential areas of conflict.
The conference will feature presentations from low carbon scenarios in
Germany, France, Hungary, UK and include participants from across Europe.
A set of proposed policy measures to support the transition from a highly
carbon dependent society to a climate friendly one will be drawn up and
presented to the European Parliament in Brussels.
Kim Bryan from the Centre for Alternative Technology said “These scenarios
show that a transition to a low carbon society is not only necessary but
possible. It is absolutely essential that in the coming decade we see clear
direction and leadership from the EU supporting low carbon initiatives”
Hans Larsen a Danish participant said ” It is fantastic to be using the
newly opened Wales Institute for Sustainable Education at CAT, the
facilities are fantastic and the surrounding countryside of the Dyfi valley
provides an inspirational setting for our participants that are coming to
Wales from across Europe.”
The conference will start on the 4th and run to the 8th of October 2010. On
the 7th of October Minister for the Environment for the Welsh Assembly
Government, Jane Davidson will launch the new Climate Strategy for Wales at the Wales Institute for Sustainable Education to conference participants and delegates for the Wales Climate Commission
