Following on from the Brixton pound physical money, comes a way to pay using text messaging. People will first need to register for the scheme online and transfer sterling into the Brixton Pound CIC account.

They will then be able to text their pin code, the name of the business they are buying from, and the amount to pay for any goods they buy.

For every £10 sterling transferred, the customer will receive £11 of electronic Brixton pounds.

The scheme, set up by Transition Town Brixton, is designed to keep money inside the local economy.
